Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, guidelines and resources for University of Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Anchorage

Artificial intelligence is a rapidly developing technology that has captured the public’s imagination. Like all technology, generative AI offers opportunities and risks. For privacy, equity and data protection purposes, selecting and using these new tools require careful consideration. To clarify the difference between AI and generative AI, here are their definitions:

AI (Artificial Intelligence): AI uses algorithms and data to enable computers to perform tasks that usually need human intelligence. It can be narrow (specific tasks) or general (broad capabilities).

GenAI (Generative AI): GenAI is a type of AI that creates original content like text, images, or videos based on natural language prompts.

ITS offers resources to enable Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ employees to explore AI's potential and address associated concerns and issues. The information presented below is subject to change. Supported AI Tools

The following tools are supported either as integrated features within other supported systems or by purchasing a license through ITS. The should still be consulted for appropriate use.

  • MS CoPilot (w/License)
  • Google Gemini Enterprise/Education (w/License)

Certain AI tools (products) have proven problematic for the UAA community. Most notably are those AI tools that are invasive by creating accounts for users in a way that is not obvious, tricking people into creating accounts, or attend meetings without the user's knowledge to transcribe meetings in their clandar without the user's knowledge. When AI tools are deemed problematic fo the UAA community, they will be prohibited on the UAA network or from being used with UAA accounts. The following AI tools are currenlty prohibited at UAA:

  • Otter.ai has been found to trick meeting attendees into creating accounts by emailing our meeting transcripts to other attendees and then integrating itself with the user's google account and calendar. To see if Otter.ai is integrated with your google account use this url: . 
  • Otter.ai's sotres data overseas and their terms and conditions were not found meet the universities data protection requirements.
