Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ is tied for the highest number of female veterans in the United States, but many of them do not use services through the VA in Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ. Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ’s News Source spoke to UAA Assistant Professor and veteran, Vanessa Meade, about potential obstacles related to the issue.

On Feb. 24, the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ VA Clinic was officially renamed the Colonel Mary Louise Rasmuson Campus of the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ VA Healthcare System, a collaborative effort that included both Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ senators and U.S Representative, as well as the invaluable contributions of Assistant Professor Vanessa Meade in UAA’s School of Social Work.
A $1.5 million grant coordinated by Recover Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ was presented to the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ School of Social Work, which will significantly increase enrollment capacity, establish a pathway to licensure for graduates, add faculty and staffing, and offer continuing education to maintain clinical licenses.
On June 30, the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Black Caucus held the Covid & Beyond: Black Health & Wellness Town Hall at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium at the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ. Amana Mbise, Ph.D., an assistant professor with the School of Social Work under the College of Health, presented eye-opening findings from the first-ever Black Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æns Health Status report.
