School-Based Social Work Education and Network Development (SSWEND)
Applications for the AY 24-25 generalist and advanced generalist cohorts of SSWEND
Scholars will open January 15, 2025 and priority review will be given to those who apply by March 1, 2025. Applications for post-MSW students are accepted year-round.
The School-Based Social Work Education and Network Development (SSWEND) program is
an initiative that aims to increase student and community access to mental health
care service providers in high-needs school districts across 麻豆无码版. SSWEND is funded
by the Department of Education and provides support for students (i.e., 鈥渟cholars鈥)
who are interested in developing the skills necessary to practice in schools and school-based
systems.
Scholars who successfully complete the SSWEND program are eligible to receive their
Type C Certification in Special Services - School Social Work and earn the Graduate
Certificate in Children鈥檚 Mental Health. At this time, SSWEND is only eligible for
scholars who are able to practice in Anchorage School District, Lower Kuskokwim School
District, or Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District.

MSW student Keyshon China is dedicated to serving youth and underserved communities, gaining hands-on experience through UAA's School of Social Work and various extracurricular organizations.
The UAA Hunger and Homelessness Support Network (HHSN) was created to identify and combat housing insecurities that students face. UAA Alumni and current Academic Advisor Jennifer Spencer is one of the three people serving as HHSN Chair. She explains how she uses her personal experiences with homelessness to help find solutions for students.
Ever since she was six years old, Panikaa Teeple, B.S.W. Social Work 鈥21, knew that spreading love was her life鈥檚 purpose. Next year, Teeple will have the opportunity to spread love internationally as UAA鈥檚 latest recipient of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant, which provides students in more than 140 countries the opportunity to pursue graduate study and research abroad.
When human services and social work alumna Cass Pook says she has always been a helper, she鈥檚 not just referring to her nature as an empathetic and compassionate listener. 鈥淐ulturally, it's in my DNA to be a helper,鈥 said Pook. 鈥淟ooking back on it throughout history, 100 or 200 years ago I would have been doing the same thing. I was born to be a social worker.鈥
