If there is anything civil engineering and project management alumnus Mohamed Niagne is passionate about, it is support structures — in engineering, and especially in relationships. As the graduate student commencement speaker for the fall Class of 2024, Niagne hopes to convey the importance of those support structures, which led him from the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Native Science and Engineering Program at UAA to his current position at the Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
‘By Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æns, for Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æns’: UAA launches the state’s first graduate program in school psychology
Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ is facing a youth mental health crisis — a situation exacerbated by the lack of services available. In response to this urgent need, UAA will launch the state’s first Master of Science in School Psychology program in fall 2025. Program director Harvey has garnered substantial financial backing, including a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education. Read more.

The Student Health and Counseling Center is offering students two different psychoeducation groups that are free this semester: suicide prevention and trauma treament. Both groups utilize evidence-based treatment techniques and are led by licensed mental health providers. More information can be found on the SHCC Mental Health page.
