Fall 2009: Dr. Ian van Tets to speak on the use of dual energy X-ray absorptiometry
by Kathleen McCoy |
Today, Oct. 30, 3:30-4:45 p.m.
ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building (CPISB), Room 120
The Biology Department is pleased to present Dr. Ian van Tets, who will enlighten us on: "Using Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, DXA, to accurately and non-destructively measure the body condition of wild animals."
Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry was developed to take accurate, repeated measures of body condition parameters in laboratory mice. Dr. van Tets has, together with colleagues and students in Israel and Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ, helped to broaden the use of this technology by testing and confirming its effectiveness for non-destructive studies of migratory birds, Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ rodents, black bears, small fish and laboratory rats.
For our off-campus guests, note that parking on the UAA campus is free of charge on Fridays.
