Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Engineering Horizons for Women: Forging Connections Across Industry, Education, and Community
The Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ, College of Engineering (UAA-CoEng) and the University of Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Fairbanks, College of Engineering and Mines (UAF-CEM) hosted the event, "Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ Engineering Horizons for Women: Forging Connections Across Industry, Education, and Community", on Friday, March 22, 2024.
The event's purpose was to strengthening connections and share insights to advance women in engineering across Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ and build upon an initiative launched at UAF in March of 2023. Registrants completed a pre-meeting survey and results were summarized and shared at the event. Participants also reviewed previous work that had been completed at the UAF event. Facilitated by Jessica Schnabel, the event included workshop sessions, asking participants to consider key questions below, and a student panel. A post workshop social was organized at a local restaurant in downtown Anchorage.
- What engineering challenges are facing Â鶹ÎÞÂë°æ (immediate and medium-term challenges)?
- How can we encourage women to join the engineering workforce, and once they’ve entered, how can industries retain top engineering talent? What strategies and initiatives are already working?
- What can the University do with stakeholders from organizations like yours to implement these ideas?
